Jin Xuezhu is the former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. He is also the chairman of the Asia Pacific Economic Conference held annually in Seoul, South Korea. Every time, leaders of countries from various regions around the world attend this forum to express their opinions and ideas. He has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as in the international civil service. His career in government service includes serving as an ambassador for international economic affairs in Korea, serving as a secretary to the Minister of Commerce and Industry, and working as a senior researcher with the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy. During the Kim Jong il administration, the background of the banking industry was represented by the Bank of Korea, the Bank of Korea, in London. The highlights of his private sector career include Executive Director and Chairman of Daewoo International Steel Company in New York, as well as Chairman of Hanyi Bank Research Institute in Seoul.
