From 1987 to 1990, Gabriel was a vocational school teacher. In 1977, Gabriel became a member of the German Social Democratic Party and became its chairman from 2009 to 2017. He held several different positions within the party of Lower Saxony, and from 1999 to 2003, he became the governor of Lower Saxony. From 2005 to 2009, Gabriel served as the Environment Minister of the German Federal Government, and from 2013 to 2017, he served as the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy. From 2017 to 2018, Sigma Gabriel served as Germany's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. After taking over the German Foreign Ministry in 2017, Gabriel gained widespread support from the public, but also had multiple conflicts with the leaders of the Social Democratic Party. German journalist Deniz Uschel was held in T\u00fcrkiye prison for more than a year, and Gabriel played an important role in the process of seeking his release. Gabriel is a supporter of the establishment of the United Nations Parliamentary Assembly, an organization dedicated to promoting democratic reform of the United Nations and striving to establish a more responsible international political system. He believes that the United Nations needs to become more effective, transparent, and democratic by reforming its structure and decision-making procedures.
