Bronislaw Komorowski achieved remarkable political achievements throughout his life and was elected as the President of Poland in 2010. In his early career, he was an underground publisher during the democratic movement. In 1980, he was arrested and imprisoned for participating in the human rights and civil rights defense movement. In 1991, he was elected as a member of parliament and was re elected in 1993. From 1997 to 2000, he served as the Chairman of the National Defense Committee of the Parliament, and after his term ended, he became the Minister of Defense. In 2007, Komorovsky became the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons. Komorovs took over the presidency of Poland in 2010, following the deaths of Polish President Lechkaczynski and dozens of senior political and business leaders in a Russian air crash. In 2015, Bronislav Komorovsky lost in the second round of the presidential election, and Anjay Duda succeeded him as president. The latter won a majority of 51% of the vote. This is the most intense election in Polish history. Komorovsky's term ended on August 6th, after which Duda was sworn in as the new president. Komorovsky is relatively open and moderate in domestic and foreign affairs. He advocates for Poland's deeper integration into the European Union and improved relations with neighboring countries. Komorowski takes a more moderate stance on sensitive issues such as homosexuality, abortion, and in vitro fertilization. He also advocated for reducing public spending and conducting in-depth reforms of Poland's economic system, especially the retirement and pension systems.
