From 2007 to 2013, Jonathan Evans served as the Director of the Military Intelligence Department of the British Security Agency. As an expert on security issues, he joined the HSBC Board of Directors in 2013 and served as a non-executive director, helping the bank address financial and cybercrime issues. Lord Evans is a top spy in the UK, hailed by the Independent as a spy who emerged from the Cold War. He mainly focuses on international and domestic counter-terrorism issues, including measures to address cyber threats. As the Director General, he is a senior advisor to the UK government on national security policy and has joined the National Security Council. Evans is deeply pleased that the UK's ability to protect itself from the threat of modern Islamic terrorism has undergone a significant transformation in his work. As the head of MI5, Evans is an important advisor to the UK government in dealing with national security threats, including terrorism, cybersecurity, and espionage threats. He is also a member of the UK Prime Minister's National Security Council. He also led MI5 to carry out related work to ensure the safety of activities for the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. During his long career at MI5, Evans served as an investigator and operations officer for various national security threats, specializing in counter-terrorism and counterintelligence activities. On September 1, 2001, ten days before the 9\/11 attacks, he became the officer in charge of the international counter-terrorism work of MI5. Evans holds a Business Guidance Certificate awarded by the UK Board of Directors and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bristol in the UK. He is an Honorary Citizen of Freeman in the City of London and a Senior Associate Researcher at the Royal United Services Research Institute. He is also a non-executive director of the UK National Crime Agency and an honorary professor at the University of St. Andrews.
