Roy Vella is an expert in the field of mobile financial services and an independent consultant to some of the biggest players in the field such as Vodafone and the Global Mobile Association, GSMA as well as many startups for smaller players. Prior to the large-scale launch of mobile financial services, Roy Vella worked at Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was responsible for developing the bank's overall strategy and employed a team of 30 people to implement the global bank's mobile business, including the development of new products and services, stored value features, enabling mobile payments, customer acquisitions and joint venture partner management. In addition, prior to joining RBS, he spent five years at PayPal, first as Director of Business Development in the U.S. Business Services team and finally as head of Mobile Payments, where he led the company's mobile payments business in Europe. Prior to working at PayPal, Roy Vella was Vice President of Sales and marketing at 4charity, Inc., a software startup focused on Fortune 500 philanthropy, and prior to that, He is also a partner at Quantum Technology Ventures, a corporate venture capital firm focused on the storage industry. As an entrepreneur, Rovella co-founded NetAbacus, an online payment service for small businesses, and served as Vice President of Marketing/Strategic Relations. When the market turned in mid-2000, he facilitated Biztro's acquisition of NetAbacus, which merged to become Rivio, where he was responsible for channel marketing and customer acquisition.
