Before starting his research career, Demis Hassabis was a renowned video game designer and AI programmer in the UK. At the age of 16, he began his professional gaming career at the legendary bullfrog game production company Bullfrog Productions. Afterwards, after graduating from Cambridge University, he joined the newly established lion head game company Lionhead Studios. In 1998, he founded and operated a game development studio called Elixir Studios, with 60 employees, mainly producing games for Microsoft and Vivendi Universal. Demis Hassabis has produced many best-selling and award-winning electronic games during his 10 year successful career, including Syndicat 1993, Theme Park 1994, Black&White amp; White 2001, Republic 2003, and Evil Genius Evil Genius 2004, among others. Demis Hassabis is also proficient in many games and possesses a high level of proficiency, including chess, Japanese Go, and poker. Before retiring from the game competition in 2003, he won the World Games Championships at the Mind Sports Olympiad World Games Championships at the Intellectual Olympics. From 1994 to 1997, Demis Hassabis obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Queens College, Cambridge University; From 2005 to 2009, obtained a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging, WTCN, University College London Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging.
