From 2012 to 2016, Peter Westmacott served as the British Ambassador to the United States. Peter served as ambassador to France in 2007-12 and ambassador to T\u00fcrkiye in 2002-06. In 2003, he handled a suicide bombing attack against the British Embassy in Istanbul, which resulted in 15 deaths; Since then, he has actively participated in the consultation process of T\u00fcrkiye's accession to the EU. Peter served in the diplomatic service of Britain for 40 years. He spent 4 years in Iraq before the revolution and was also temporarily sent to the European Commission in Brussels. From 1997 to 2000, he served as the Minister of American Affairs for the Commonwealth Office of Foreign Affairs in the UK, and later served on the Board of Directors as Deputy Minister. From 1990 to 93, he served as the Deputy Secretary General of the Prince of Wales. Currently, he is a member of the British Physical Society and a senior researcher at the Belfort Center at Kennedy College, Harvard University.
