Since March 2011, Augusto Ropez Claros has been the Director of Global Indicators and Analysis at the World Bank Group. He is the Chief Economist and Director of the Global Competitiveness Project at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, responsible for overseeing the preparation of the flagship publication of the Forum - the Global Competitiveness Report, as well as other regional economic reports. Before joining the World Economic Forum, he was an executive director and senior international economist at Lehman Brothers London. From 1992 to 1995, he was the representative of the International Monetary Fund to the Russian Federation. Before joining the International Monetary Fund, he served as an economics professor at the University of Chile in Santiago. Ropez Claros received education in the UK and the United States, earning a degree in mathematical statistics from Cambridge University and a PhD in economics from Duke University. He has written many articles and papers on international economic issues, covering topics such as the European Monetary System, IMF reform, the role of international financial organizations, and the National Innovation Capacity Index. His research interests include interdependence and win-win cooperation that accompany global institutions, essential elements of successful economic development models, and management of globalization processes.
