James Rubin is an internationally renowned foreign affairs journalist, academic expert, and one of the world's leading authorities on U.S. diplomacy, national security, and foreign policy. In September 2014, he became a columnist for the Sunday Times. From 1997 to 2000, Rubin served as Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs in the Clinton administration and as chief spokesman for Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright. During the Kosovo crisis, he served as Special Coordinator for the Kosovo Liberation Army demobilization mission. He was previously a visiting fellow at the Rothermere American Institute, Oxford University 2013-2014; Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey 2011-2013; adviser to Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York 2011-2013; Associate Professor at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs 2009-2011; Co-managing editor of Bloomberg News 2011. From 2000-2008, Rubin worked as a broadcaster, professor, and financial communications strategist in London. From 2005 to 2007, he was an anchor and global affairs commentator for Sky News. From 2001 to 2004, he was Visiting Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics. From 2001 to 2004 Mr. Brunswick was a partner at the Brunswick Group, a financial advisory firm. In 2002 and 2003, he was co-host of the PBS international current affairs series Wide Angle. During the 2008 presidential campaign, he was a delegate for Hillary Clinton's international affairs televised debates. In 2004, he served as Senior National Security Adviser for the Kerry/Edwards Campaign. In 1996, he served as foreign policy Director for President Clinton/Vice President Gore. Previously, he served as Senior Adviser and Spokesperson to Madeleine Colbert Albright, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, 1993-1996, Expert member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senior Foreign Policy Adviser to Senator Joseph Biden, 1989-1993. From 1985 to 1989, he was a senior analyst and research director at the Nonpartisan Arms Control Association. In 1998, Rubin received Columbia University's John Jay Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement. In 2000, he received the State Department's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. He holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Columbia University in 1982 and a Master's degree in International affairs in 1984. He frequently writes for The New York Times, the Financial Times, The Washington Post, the New Republic, Newsweek, and Foreign Affairs, and appears regularly on channels such as CNN, the BBC, Sky, and MSNBC. Rubin currently serves on the board of directors of the International Peace Institute.
